Initial consultation
The initial consultation is important as it sets the scene for ensuing work, and gives us an opportunity to explore your reasons for seeking therapy. This initial meeting may provoke some anxiety, particularly if you have not had therapy before, but many people find it a relief to articulate the problem in a safe and non-judgmental space. It provides a foundation for the therapy and a baseline for mapping change.
Sessions
Subsequent sessions are fifty minutes long and are offered on a weekly basis. My clinical framework is psychodynamic. This means that there is a focus on exploring how the past may have an effect on your current experiences. I also use behavioural interventions as and when appropriate in psychosexual work. I work on an open-ended, long-term basis, but can also undertake short-term work with clients where appropriate. This would be something we would discuss at initial consultation stage.
